The National Council on Strength and Fitness is a founding member of the Coalition for the Registration of Exercise Professionals, (CREP, pronounced C-rep), a not-for-profit, 501(c) (6) coalition of the nation’s most trusted, reputable certifiers of exercise professionals. CREP has created the the United States Registry of Exercise Professionals (USREPS), all of whom have been vetted by a uniform standard to provide for improved consumer safety and confidence when hiring an exercise professional. All NCSF certified professionals are included in the registry, along with the certified professionals of the other member organizations.

The benefit of a single, valid resource for credential verification is far reaching; consumers, employers, and regulators can easily search, identify, and verify NCCA accredited exercise professionals quickly and accurately. Additionally, CREP members provide the resources for the registry and all advocacy efforts. This removes cost for registration by those professionals who are certified by member organizations. An important goal of CREP is to prevent any financial burden on the professional or stakeholders of the profession, and to open pathways for consumer participation in safe, structured physical activity.

The mission of CREP and intent of the US Registry is to promote recognition of qualified exercise professionals as health providers while enhancing access to safe and effective structured exercise for everyone.

CREP will:

• Advocate for the profession and promote professionals as recognized health providers
• Monitor legislation and provide support, guidance, and clarity for regulators so they may make the best decisions for consumers, professionals, and the industry
• Serve as a credible and valued resource for standard-setting organizations
• Work with health advocacy organizations to promote physical activity

With healthcare increasingly focused on preventing and treating obesity and costly chronic conditions, exercise professionals have become necessary members of the healthcare team and are best positioned to serve this role.

What is the purpose of the registry?

USREPS will support the health and fitness professional who holds an NCCA-accredited fitness certification by:

• Serving as a clearinghouse for verification of current NCCA-accredited fitness certifications by employers, regulatory bodies and consumers
• Mapping to international registries to enhance the value and portability of NCCA-accredited certifications for those looking for international employment opportunities

Who will be on the registry?

All individuals who hold NCCA-accredited fitness certifications from member organizations will be listed on the registry. All NCSF certified professionals will be listed on the registry and any newly certified professionals will be added once their certification status has been officially validated.

Which of my certifications will be displayed on the registry?

USREPS will display all of the current NCCA-accredited certifications that an individual holds from member organizations. No specialty certifications or other credentials will be listed on the registry.

How do I download the "Find Me At" USREPs Badge?

Will I be able to customize my listing on the registry?

No, the registry is intended solely for the purpose of verification of credentials.

When will the registry be live?

The registry was launched for public access on February 24, 2014.

What will it cost to be on the registry?

NCSF certified professionals will not incur any fees to be listed on the registry. The NCSF pays dues to support the registry and the other work of the Coalition.

Where can I view my listing or direct a prospective employer?

Your NCSF certification can be verified on the NCSF homepage or at the registry USREPs

How will the registry know once I am certified/expired/lapsed?

The NCSF will provide USREPS with data on any new, renewing or expired professionals on a daily basis.

Will my listing be removed immediately if my certification lapses or expires?

Yes

Is there a grace period?

No

If my certification expires and I am removed from the registry, can I get put back on it once I renew/re-sit for certification?

Yes, after your certification is renewed, or if you earn a new or additional NCCA-accredited certification, you will be added to the registry.
